Sunshine on a Cloudy Day

A bouquet of happiness during this insane year. Keep reading for flower deets!

I think it’s safe to say, 2020 has absolutely been a CRAZY ASS YEAR!

In my thirty three years of living, I’ve never experienced such a tumultuous year. From a worldwide pandemic to racial injustice, celebrity deaths, and more..it’s been A LOT. Honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised if “During such unprecedented times” won some kind of internet award for most overused sentence of the year LOL but in any case, this year has truly taught me to be grateful. Although things could be better, they could ALWAYS be much worse, and during “these unprecedented times,” (See what I did there? LOL) that’s the last thing I want.

ANYWAY! Let’s get into some inspo!

As I’ve said before, I’m 10000% a floral enthusiast. I love aesthetics and creating beauty in my environment, so I was surprised when my good friend asked me to create a sympathy arrangement to gift for her family member.

As soon as she asked me to take this, my wheels started turning and I went into go mode, looking up different arrangements to use as inspiration. Since my girl friend is familiar with my style, she gave me complete creative control, so with this in mind, I headed to my local Trader Joes to see what they had in store for my first client.

Lillies can represent a number of things, one of them is rebirth. For this arrangement I knew I wanted to incorporate lillies, but also wanted to use other bright hues to represent happiness.

For this arrangement I used the following budget friendly beauties:

  • (1) 3 stem Hydrangeas - $5.99

  • (1) Mum Balls - $3.99

  • (1) Single Color Alstroemeria - $3.99

  • (1) Oriental Lily Bunch - $5.99

Green Mum Balls

Oriental Lily

3 Stem Hydrangea

I knew that I wanted the hydrangeas to be the center of attention, so Using the floral grid method I started from the outside, and worked my way towards the center where they hydrangeas were placed.

FUN FACT: Hydrangeas tend to wilt pretty quickly. After cutting the stem, dip in Alum powder before placing in the vase, and I promise they’ll last at LEAST a week and half, maybe TWO with proper care (Which really just means changing the water). Just go to the floral section of your local grocery store, and they’ll happily give it to you. They might even be surprised you mentioned it in the first place LOL.

Back to the arrangement…

I filled the empty spaces with the green mum balls and oriental Lillies….

AND VOILA! My first arrangement hand delivered to my happy client :)
